Other Pipeline Safety Initiatives in Washington State:

In the aftermath of the Bellingham pipeline tragedy, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Rodney E. Slater, resolved to take action to further safeguard the pipeline system in the state of Washington. In support of Secretary Slater's commitment, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration announced on October 27, 1999, that it would complete a comprehensive review of all pipelines in Washington within six months.

RSPA's Office of Pipeline Safety and the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission completed a joint review of all interstate transmission pipeline facilities by April 2000. That review included inspection of over 2,500 miles of pipeline.
